Foxtails are the worst!

I never considered the poison cousin of Queen Anne’s lace! Lots of good stuff in this post

I live a few blocks north of you in Kenton, and I have a lot of fennel volunteers in my parking strip garden, and after some complaints from neighbors, I pointed out that while in bloom, the plants are filled with bees and butterflies, and after it goes to seed, we have flocks of tiny birds that come to feast.

Oh, I haven't been down to the Dog Bowl when the birds were mining the fennel forest for food. Makes sense! Incidentally, if you have any neighbors with overproducing plum trees, let them know I am happy to relieve them of fruit. (Just putting out the call right now.)

Foxtails are the devil. Great piece. Just moved to a spot full of Queen Anne’s lace, or is it poison hemlock. Ack! Off to investigate and to jelly if I’m lucky. Thx for the inspiration.

Heather Arndt Anderson just emailed me another tip: Hemlock mostly grows in wetlands, Queen Anne's lace on dry fields. Here's to not poisoning ourselves!

Alabaster made me laugh out loud. Ha!
